A New Year Wish

by Ann Drysdale

Let us go to the Boot
For a bit of a hoot
And let us be joyful and jolly
Let us giggle and shout
Let us hang it all out
In the season of tinsel and holly

To the Boot let us go
Through blizzard and snow
When the world is uncouth and unkind
Leaving bully and boor
In a heap at the door
And comely companionship find

For it’s here they all meet
At the top of the street
Poet and peasant and clown
Toff, townie and tar
They arrive from afar
And come in and switch off and sit down

And some have a smoke
And a laugh and a joke
And others just drink and depart
But all would agree
It’s a fine hostelry
For healing the holes in the heart

So…

Let us go to the Boot
Let us reach for the root
Of fellowship, fun and good cheer
Let us sit on our arses
And lift up our glasses
And drink to a Happy New Year
