To the Lightning Bug

by Catherine Chandler

I'd take your flashing, bitter star,
devise a golden ring;
or trap you in a jelly jar
for the Fairy King.

Plus ça change, the flip cliché,
kids still pinch your light.
Stolen beauty, steal away
in lines of flight!
